HEALTHCARE
Graduate Project

Timeline: 2022 – 2023 (1-Year Capstone Project)

ShareCare is a digital health platform that helps cancer patients seek second medical opinions and track their treatment journey. It combines expert guidance with personalized tools—like progress tracking and emotional check-ins—to support informed decisions and ongoing care.

My Role As a Product Designer

I led the project end-to-end as a solo product designer, responsible for research, UX strategy, branding, and UI system development. The project evolved from a second-opinion platform into a patient-centered support tool designed to guide cancer patients through emotionally and mentally difficult decisions.

Background and Inspiration

ShareCare, was inspired by my 2022 summer internship at MAI company as an interaction design intern. During the project, we aimed to design a second opinion platform for cancer patients. However, as I researched further, I discovered that the real pain point for most cancer patients is not finding second opinion services online but rather making informed decisions about their treatment. Additionally, the treatment process can be extremely difficult and emotional for cancer patients, leading to feelings of hopelessness and anxiety. With ShareCare, we aimed to provide a platform that offers expert guidance, personalized care, and a supportive community to help patients navigate their treatment journey with confidence and a positive mindset.

Why Stories Matter

A cancer journey doesn’t happen in isolation—it involves a web of support, care, and communication. To understand these touchpoints more deeply, we explored three perspectives that shape the patient experience:

  • 🧑‍⚕️ Oncologist – Provides medical advice, but often struggles to ensure patients feel truly informed.

  • 👩‍👧 Caregiver – Offers emotional and logistical support, while managing their own uncertainty.

  • 🧍‍♀️ Patient – Faces overwhelming decisions and needs clarity, confidence, and empathy.

💖 Reflection

Impact of Design

“Design can’t cure illness—but it can ease fear, guide choices,
and remind people they’re not alone.

ShareCare was more than a design project—it was a journey into the emotional side of healthcare. Through interviews, storyboarding, and prototyping, I learned how UX can bridge the gap between medical facts and human experience. Designing for patients, caregivers, and doctors taught me to listen not just for needs, but for feelings—uncertainty, fear, and hope. This project reminded me that good design doesn't just inform—it comforts, connects, and empowers.
